How to Find Your Lenovo Desktop Model Number

Your Lenovo desktop model is displayed in several locations:

  • Front Bezel: Look for the product name on the front of the chassis (e.g., “ThinkCentre M90q”).
  • System Information (Windows): Right-click This PC → Properties. Search for “System Information” and look for “System Model”.
  • Lenovo Vantage (Windows 10/11): Press Win+X, select Device Manager, or search for “Lenovo Vantage” in the Start menu.
  • Serial Number/Service Tag: A code on the back or bottom of the chassis. Enter this at Lenovo Support to view exact specifications.
  • BIOS/UEFI: Restart and press F1 or Del during startup to enter BIOS and view hardware details.

Lenovo Desktop RAM Upgrade Instructions

Step 1: Power Down and Unplug

Shut down your Lenovo desktop completely. Unplug the power cable from the rear. Wait at least 30 seconds for residual power to dissipate.

Step 2: Open the Case

Most Lenovo desktops have tool-less side panels. Look for a release button or latch on the rear panel. Slide or swing the panel outward to open.

Step 3: Locate RAM Slots

RAM slots are located near the CPU socket, typically color-coded (blue for DDR4/DDR5). Note the position of any existing RAM modules.

Step 4: Remove Existing RAM (If Replacing)

Press both release clips on the ends of the RAM module outward simultaneously. The module will pop up at a 45-degree angle. Gently pull it out.

Step 5: Insert New RAM

Align the notch on the bottom of the new RAM with the slot key. Insert at approximately 45 degrees, then press firmly until both clips snap into place with a click.

Step 6: Close and Verify

Replace the side panel and secure it. Reconnect the power cable and power on. Windows should automatically detect the new RAM. Verify by checking System Information.

Lenovo Desktop SSD Upgrade Guide

All modern Lenovo desktops (2018+) feature at least one M.2 NVMe slot for fast SSD upgrades.

Finding Your M.2 Slot

Open the case and look for the M.2 slot on the motherboard, typically labeled and located near the chipset area. You may see one or multiple slots depending on your model.

Installation Steps

  1. Power off and unplug the desktop.
  2. Open the case and locate the M.2 slot(s).
  3. Remove any small screw from the standoff bracket.
  4. Insert your NVMe SSD at a 30-degree angle into the slot.
  5. Press down gently and secure with the screw.
  6. Close the case, reconnect power, and boot into BIOS (F1 or Del) to verify detection.
