ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404) Specifications
Correction (September 2026): this page previously described an “ASUS Pro 14 OLED (2024) UX6404” with a Core Ultra 9 185H, two M.2 slots and a 180W USB-C charger. The UX6404 is a 2023 machine built on 13th Gen Intel silicon, it has one M.2 slot, and it uses a 200W barrel adapter, not USB-C. The page also omitted the most important fact for anyone planning an upgrade: 16GB of its memory is soldered, and only one SO-DIMM slot is free.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404) is a 14-inch creator laptop with discrete RTX graphics in a chassis the size of an ultrabook. It is upgradeable, but only partly — read the memory section before you buy modules for it.

Memory Upgrade Path
This is the part most listings get wrong. The UX6404 has 16GB of DDR5 soldered to the mainboard plus one SO-DIMM slot. The slot accepts a single module up to 32GB, giving a maximum of 48GB in total.
Two consequences worth understanding before you spend anything:
- You cannot remove or replace the soldered 16GB. Whatever you fit in the slot is added to it, not instead of it.
- Buy one module, not a kit. There is only one slot, so a 2 × 16GB dual-channel kit is money wasted — you would be able to fit only half of it. A single 32GB module is the upgrade that makes sense.
Recommended DDR5 SO-DIMM upgrades
| Module | Capacity | Speed | Price* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crucial DDR5 SO-DIMM (single module) | 32GB | DDR5-4800/5600 | View on Amazon |
| Kingston Fury Impact SO-DIMM (single module) | 32GB | DDR5-5600 | View on Amazon |
| Samsung DDR5 SO-DIMM (single module) | 16GB | DDR5-4800 | View on Amazon |
Storage Expansion (M.2 NVMe)
There is one M.2 slot, PCIe 4.0 x4, taking a standard M.2 2280 drive. Adding storage means replacing the drive that is in there, not supplementing it, so size up when you do it — going straight to 2TB usually costs less than doing the job twice.

Power Delivery and Charging
The UX6404 does not use a USB-C charger as its main supply. It ships with a 200W barrel adapter (20V DC, 10A, ø6.0mm connector). A Core i9 driving an RTX 4070 needs that headroom; no USB-C Power Delivery charger on the market reaches it. Replace like for like — match both the 200W rating and the 6.0mm barrel size.
Thunderbolt 4 charging does work for light use. It will hold the machine at idle and charge it overnight, but it will not keep up while the discrete GPU is working, and the laptop will make up the shortfall from the battery.
| Charger | Wattage | Type | Price* |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASUS 200W AC adapter (ø6.0mm) | 200W | Barrel | View on Amazon |
| USB-C PD charger (light use only) | 100W | USB-C GaN | View on Amazon |
Ports and Docking
Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, so any Thunderbolt or USB-C dock will work, along with HDMI 2.1 and an SD Express reader that is genuinely fast for camera work. As above, treat dock power as a convenience rather than a replacement for the 200W brick.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much RAM can the ASUS Zenbook Pro 14 OLED (UX6404) take?
48GB — 16GB soldered onboard plus a single 32GB DDR5 SO-DIMM. The soldered portion cannot be removed.
Should I buy a dual-channel kit?
No. There is only one SO-DIMM slot, so buy a single 32GB module. Half of a 2 × 16GB kit would have nowhere to go.
How many SSD slots does it have?
One, M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0. Upgrading means replacing the existing drive.
What charger does it need?
A 200W barrel adapter (20V, 10A, ø6.0mm). USB-C charging works for light use only.
Is there a 2024 Zenbook Pro 14 OLED UX6404?
No. The UX6404 is the 2023 model and uses 13th Gen Intel processors. ASUS did not ship a Core Ultra version under this model number, so any listing pairing a UX6404 with a Core Ultra 9 185H is mistaken.
