ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2023) GV601 Specifications
Correction (September 2026): this page previously described an “ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2024)” with a Ryzen 9 8945HS, soldered LPDDR5x and an M.2 2230 slot. No 2024 Flow X16 exists — the series ran as the 2022 GV601R and the 2023 GV601V, and it is the 2023 GV601 that this page now covers. Every one of those claims was also wrong for the real machine: it is an Intel i9-13900H, its memory is on two ordinary DDR5 SO-DIMM slots with nothing soldered, and its SSD is M.2 2280, not 2230.
The ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2023) is a 16-inch convertible gaming laptop. Unusually for a 2-in-1, almost nothing about its memory or storage is locked down — it is one of the more upgradeable machines in its class, which the previous version of this page had exactly backwards.

Memory Upgrade Path
The ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2023) has two DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM slots and no soldered memory at all, giving a maximum of 64GB. Both slots are reachable under the bottom cover, so a 16GB machine can be taken to 64GB without any specialist work.
Install modules as a matched pair. Kingston notes for this model that memory clocks down to the optimal speed depending on how many modules and what types are fitted per channel, so mixing capacities or ranks can cost you speed as well as dual-channel operation.

Storage Expansion (M.2 NVMe)
One M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe slot. Buy a single-sided drive — clearance in this chassis is tight, and double-sided 2280 drives can foul the cover. Do not buy an M.2 2230 drive for this machine; that was an error in the previous version of this page.

Power Delivery and Charging
There is no such thing as a 200W USB-C charger for this laptop. USB-C Power Delivery tops out at 240W under the current standard, and ASUS does not ship a USB-C adapter anywhere near that for the Flow X16. The machine is designed around a ø6.0mm barrel adapter rated 240W or 280W depending on which RTX GPU you have, and ASUS supplies a separate 100W USB-C adapter for travel.
Use the barrel adapter whenever you are gaming or rendering. The 100W USB-C brick is genuinely useful — it will run the machine for office work and charge it overnight — but it cannot feed a Core i9 plus an RTX 4070 under load, and the laptop will draw the difference from the battery until it runs down.

Ports and Docking
The Flow X16 has a USB4 Type-C port, so Thunderbolt-class docks and enclosures work. It also carries the proprietary ROG XG Mobile interface, which is ASUS’s own external GPU connector and is not interchangeable with anything else. A dock supplying 100W over USB-C will keep the machine topped up at the desk but, as above, will not sustain it under gaming load.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the RAM in the ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2023) soldered?
No. It has two standard DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM slots and no soldered memory, to a maximum of 64GB. Both are user-accessible.
What SSD does it take?
M.2 2280, PCIe 4.0 NVMe, one slot. Choose a single-sided drive for clearance. It does not use M.2 2230.
Can I charge it with a USB-C charger?
Yes, for light use. ASUS supplies a 100W USB-C adapter alongside the main barrel adapter. Under gaming or rendering load you need the 240W or 280W ø6.0mm barrel adapter — no USB-C charger can supply that.
Which processor does it use?
The Intel Core i9-13900H — it is the only CPU ASUS offered in the 2023 GV601. Any listing claiming an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS Flow X16 is describing a machine that does not exist.
Is there a ROG Flow X16 (2024)?
No. The Flow X16 was sold as the 2022 (GV601R) and 2023 (GV601V) models only. If you have seen a “2024” listed, it is either a 2023 unit sold in 2024 or a mislabelled product.
