LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X: What You Need to Know

LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X are soldered directly to the motherboard. They’re faster and more power-efficient than standard SO-DIMM modules, which is why manufacturers use them in ultrabooks and premium thin laptops — but the trade-off is zero upgradeability.

LPDDR5X reaches speeds of up to 8,533 MHz with significantly lower power consumption than DDR5 SO-DIMM. Samsung has demonstrated LPDDR5X modules hitting 10,700 MT/s. If your laptop uses LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X, the amount of RAM you ordered at purchase is the amount you’ll always have.
